This project was created for a university class that specifically focused on working with Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. We had the chance to work with different gadgets (e.g. Leap Motion and Oculus Rift) or initiate and design our own VR/AR environments. Together with a fellow student I thus decided to contact the museum, "Natur und Mensch", in Freiburg for a collaborative project.
Our concept was to augment different exhibits in the museum with extended 3D models to transport further information about the exhibit's background and visualize its explanatory descriptions.

After establishing a concept for six different exhibits (from the ethnology and nature study department), we used a game development platform and an AR software development kit to build our application for mobile devices.
A communication exchange with the museum enabled the implementation of our concepts as well as the progress and improvements.

Based on the previous mentioned concept, the next step focused on the user interface and the user experience of the app itself.

The UI design's goal was to be easily usable, understandable, simple and self-explanatory. It serves as a digital portal and a gateway between technology and end-user.
Not only lies the focus on the functionalities of the app, but it is meant to briefly explain how Augmented Reality works in general. Icons and graphics are used to simplify the complexity of the topic.
In the left-hand slider you can see the visual implementation of the basic architectural structure of the app whilst also emphasizing the significance of a responsive design. The interfaces are therefore created in landscape as well as in portrait mode.
